The Blame Game

Lately, Devin has been blaming things on his sister.

"My sister made that mess."

"It was my sister."

"My sister dumped all the blocks on the floor and didn't clean them up!"

The problem with this, you ask?

He doesn't have a sister!!!

Disney On Ice

Last night we went to see Disney on Ice Princess Classics. Now, before you ask why we went to see the princess classics I will tell you that my mother won the tickets through the local radio station. Being the non-discriminatory person that I am, I said "Of course Devin will like it!"

And so, we went.

Unfortunately, Devin did not know many of the stories that they showed: Mulan, Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid. The one story that he did know was Beauty and the Beast. Devin could not wait to see the Beast! Well, wouldn't you know it as soon as Devin had to go for a potty break the Beast made his appearance! Devin did not see the Beast. AT. ALL. My mother told him that the Beast came to the edge of the ice and yelled, "Where's Devin?" That seemed to appease him and he was less upset about missing the Beast. Well that and the fact that he got a toy Beast and (Eel??) binoculars.

We had a great time. Here are some not so great pictures. (My camera decided it needed to be charged just before we left so they are all phone pics.)

Mommy and Devin before we left the house:

Grandma and Devin at the arena:
Under the Sea:
Cinderella's Coach:
On the way home Devin said, "That was a great show. I want to see it again!"

Devin's Big Idea

Saturday evening Devin had the "Big Idea" to make Juice Pops. (I think he got this from the Agent Oso television show on the Disney Channel.) We talked about it at dinner. Devin said that we needed juice, toothpicks, and cups. Erick and I also decided that we would need plastic wrap to help secure the toothpick in place. Immediately following dinner we got to work.
About 2 minutes after the pops were in the freezer Devin wanted to know if they were ready. At that point I promised him that he could have one of the juice pops for breakfast! (They were pure apple or orange juice!) Operation Juice Pops...success!

The Best Thing

I asked Devin a couple of probing questions last night. Here were his interesting responses.

Mommy: Devin, What's the best thing you ever had to eat?

Devin: Uhhh, pancakes with (whipped) cream.

Mommy: Yeah, that is pretty good! Where is the best place you ever went?

Devin: The (Mc) Donald's Playground (he means the Playplace....you know where he is talking about!)

Mommy: What's the best thing you ever did?

Devin: Went to get a smoothie with Grandma and then got powdered donuts. Those are good!

*Ha! I am sensing a a bit of a pattern here. (FOOD!) Although, in his defense we WERE watching Food Network at the time and the Best of All Time ad is what prompted the questions in the first place!

Sledding

Now I am probably about to divulge a bad Mommy secret here. Devin has been out to play in the snow plenty of times. Many of my faithful readers know that on snowy days, or days nice enough for Devin to play outside I bundle him up and plop him out on our nicely gated back deck and watch him from the warm comfort of our living room. Now, you see, Devin loves the snow. Me, well I love to look at it from indoors, but that's about it.

So, here it is (Karla ducks for cover)....yesterday Devin went sledding for the first time. He LOVED it! As I knew he would. Here are a couple of pictures that I took with my cell phone and tried to enhance with picnik.com

Can you tell how much fun he was having? You should have heard his laugh!!

Oh, and thanks for all of the well wishes and misery on the sickies. I was starting to feel better yesterday, and this morning I woke up feeling WORSE! It must have been playing outside for nearly an hour yesterday that did me in!

Enough of the Sickies

We just can't seem to catch a break lately. Since I reported about Devin having the stomach bug, we now have the head/chest cold thing. Devin started with it towards the end of last week and it really threw him in a funk. He was moody, tired, and just not right. You could tell he was "off." By Saturday afternoon he was a snotty, coughing, whining mess. I felt bad for my boy.

He is doing better now, still coughing some, but not nearly anything like he was over the week-end. Now I am feeling like doo. My biggest problem is that my chest hurts. I feel like I can't breath well. I am coughing some and a bit of a stuffy nose and sore throat and very tired. UGH! I just want us all to feel better!!!!

How much more LYSOL can I spray? How many more times should I change the sheets? How much more orange juice should we drink?

And we aren't even close to spring....................

Career

Devin has decided on his career path. He told me last night that he would like to be a mailman, a doctor, and finally a Special Agent.

I like how Devin will be spicing things up every 20 years or so. He seems to be going for a change of pace and creativity...I like that. ;)

The Week-end of No Sleep

Devin has always been a good sleeper, a REALLY good sleeper. He started sleeping through the night around 6 weeks old, rarely waking for a diaper change or feeding during the wee hours. He took 2 naps a day until he was 1.5 and will still sleep for a good 1.5 + hours at nap time. He used to sleep until 9 or 10am quite often (but now is on a school routine so he is usually up around 6:30/7:30) but is in bed at 7/7:30pm. I know, we're lucky. If we have another I've been warned to be prepared, as they probably won't be as good a sleeper as Devin.

The problem with having a great sleeper is that when they don't sleep well it throws us all off. We are just not used to it! Friday Devin skipped his nap (a rarity) and Saturday morning he woke up at 5:45 (I was beyond shocked and a bit annoyed!). I was convinced that he would take a 3 hour nap Saturday afternoon but 20 minutes was all he slept!!! I knew something was up at that point.

Saturday night around 11pm Devin woke up with a tummy ache. I was able to get him into the bathroom JUST. IN. TIME. The vomiting commenced at this point and did not stop until about 7am. Just was we would get back into bed, my poor sad, sick Devin would start crying and calling us back to get sick again. He was miserable. It was so sad. I felt bad for him.

Sunday we were all EXHAUSTED. Having gotten no sleep, we laid on the couch and watched movies. After Devin's afternoon nap he spiked a temp of 101.5*. Some Tylenol helped the fever and finally he was able to hold down some water and eventually crackers and applesauce. At dinner he had buttered noodles and held that down too.

Last night everyone slept through the night....VERY MUCH NEEDED!!! Devin is fever free today, but still not eating much. I am not going to push him. I have a bit of a come-and-go tummy ache, but (hopefully) I'll be fine. Erick is off to work. Hopefully he got enough sleep to have the energy to deliver the mail in today's frigid temps!

Girls, Girls, Girls

Isn't there a Beastie Boy song like that?

Devin has been quite interested in girls for a while now. Bless MY heart! I am going to be in trouble with this kid!

Last week we went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakqual. In this second edition Chipmunks movie Alvin, Simon, and Theodore become swooned by the Chipettes, a cute female Chipmunk threesome. The movie is very cute. Immediately following the the show Erick, Devin, and I went out for pizza. As we were leaving the restaurant, Devin made his father slow down because he said he was "checking out" the girl at the next table. "Isn't she cute Daddy?" Oye!

~A few weeks back (and quite often) Devin asked me if I was still married.

ME: Yes Devin I am still married.

Devin: Are you married forever Mommy?
ME: Yes.
Devin: I am going to marry Aubriana. Okay Mommy?

~Just yesterday when Devin was perusing the movie covers, trying to decide which movie he would like to watch he picked up the Tinkerbell movie and proceeded to tell us which girls on the cover were the prettiest.

I am not sure where he is getting all of these things from. I think, no I KNOW that he picks things up quickly/easily. Its only takes Devin hearing something ONCE for him to know and repeat it again! While I think these things are mostly cute and funny, I do not want him to only look at girl's looks/outside and to judge them superficially. I guess for now I won't read too much into it.....

Happy New Year

Welcome 2010!

I was able to ring in the new year with my hunny, thanks to my Mom for watching Devin overnight. We had a really low key night~ going out to dinner alone, visiting friends for a little while and watching the ball drop at home in our pj's! It was perfect! (THANK YOU MOM!)

Oh, and the best part was probably where we got to sleep until 10:45 am!

Here's to hoping for much love, many laughs, and good health in 2010! *cheers*
