Phone Photo Friday~ Band Version

Every Thursday night my Dad's band plays at Harley Davidson Nashua from 6 to 8. We decided to check it out this week. They sounded pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. This, of course, was no surprise to me as my Dad has been playing the bass and in bands much longer than I've been living. He is very talented (says the uber-cheesy smiling proud daughter).

My Dad is all the way on the right in the white shirt...on the bass.
Here is Devin showing off his mini-frisbee. A bikini-clad-high-heel-wearing hottie gave it to him. She was washing bikes for a Breast Cancer fundraiser. Dad and Papa were so proud! (LOL)*I tried to touch up the pictures a little. They were washed out.

Here is a clip of my Dad's band playing...

Papa's Influence

Preface: You have to know my father to appreciate this story. My father is a blues /jazz lover. He plays the bass in different blues and jazz bands and has about a bazillion blues/jazz CDs (am I wrong Mom?). Remember this post from Christmas time?

Devin loves listening to classical music when he goes to bed. Its just a habit that we've gotten into at home and something they do at school too. Its actually proven to boost brain growth, and really Devin just enjoys it. At home his Baby Mozart (or whatever composer we have in that day/week) plays for about an hour and then turns off at the end of the CD.

Sometimes Devin sleeps at my parent's house for his Saturday afternoon nap, or the occasional overnight. Well Saturday afternoon I got Devin all set up for his nap in my parent's Den. I gave him hugs and kisses and left the room. As I was walking down the hallway I could hear him calling me, so I went back in to see what he needed. "Jazzeber, Mommy!"

Huh? I didn't get it.

"Jazz eber Mommy. I need the Jazz Eber!"

It took me a minute until I realized that Devin was asking for one of my father's CDs titled "The Best Smooth Jazz Ever" I would say that Devin is definitely being influenced by his Papa!

Devin and Papa Jam out on Christmas Eve

My father taught himself to play the bass when he returned from Vietnam, nearly 40 years ago. It is something that has become a hobby, a passion, and (partial) career for him as he uses it for side jobs to earn extra money. He is VERY GOOD at it!!! My father has mostly played the bass guitar, but in recent years took interest in the larger standing bass.

Devin LOVES when his Papa plays the bass. Since he was a baby, Devin has loved to listen to Papa play songs for him. As soon as Devin could boogie, he began dancing to Papa's music and it was only fitting that last Christmas Grandma and Papa got Devin his own Elmo guitar for Jam sessions.

On Christmas Eve Devin and Papa had a Jam session. It was adorably cute!

The lighting in my father's "music room/den" is dim, so I hope that you can see the video well enough to enjoy it.....
