Devin-isms 4.0

*Daddy if you're a good boy at work today, maybe we can play Wii tonight.

*(After waking from a sound slumber Devin called me into his room) Mommy, can you put my lucky penny in the piggy bank? (Rolls over and goes back to sleep)

*(After finding a large ant in the house) Daddy we can put a "NO ANTS ALLOWED" sign on the front door so the ants don't come in anymore.

Shocked!

A snip-it of conversation from Easter dinner...

Memmere (my grandmother): Well, I'm going to be 77 in June.

Devin (with a genuine look of surprise): You've got to be kidding me!

It was so funny that we all busted out laughing!! I really don't think that Devin understands the concept of age (well, actually he does- to a point) or what 77 years old actually means. I think it was just an appropriate/well timed/ testing out the waters kind of reaction.

Learning Curve

Devin's vocabulary amazes me. He uses large words in conversation and can understand an immense amount of words as well. If he does not know a word, he can often figure it out in context and he is also not afraid to ask what it means (love that!). Lately he has been using a lot of phrases in his speech/conversation such as, "well actually" and "by the way." Its pretty cute.

Devin has also been heavy into rhyming lately. I love how he notices the rhyming words in books (all by himself) and can also produce a pair of rhyming words as well as supply a word that rhymes with a given word.

It is very exciting for me to watch Devin develop as he continues to thrive in his learning of literacy and math. He is also mastering new skills such as scootering and coloring, and really enjoys playing with his friends. He could use a little work on listening, but that is a different post altogether. ;)

I leave you with this little funny:

Devin: Mommy, how come you slept on the couch?

Mommy: Why do you think I slept on the couch?

Devin: Because it's comfortable?

Mommy: Yes Devin, the couch is comfortable. Why would Mommy sleep on the couch though?

Devin: Because Daddy was snoring again?!?! Why? He didn't wear his band-aid!?!?

(referring to his Breathe Right strip) haha

Devin-isms 3.75

Here are a few snippets that Devin has come up with lately...

~I am going to build the Eiffel Tower. Watch!

~Have no fear Daddy, I will make you some coffee!

~It's a bucket of bolts!

~My snog (snot/boogers) is coming out.

~We are going to the zoo (museum) and Daddy you can have a big shovel and I can have the small shovel and we can dig for dinosaur bones! Okay Daddy?

Where do they come up with this stuff? I know some of his recent lines come from Alvin and the Chipmunks, one of his new favorite cartoons. And can you tell he has been a total Daddy's boy lately?

Funny Boy

~ The other night I was relaxing with some "Me Time" at my hair appointment. While I was waiting for my hair to process I was texting my husband to get some details on something. He was not being very forthcoming (Men can be so vague sometimes!) so I kept texting him for more information. Later on that evening when I got home Devin asked me, "Are you bored Mommy?" Umm no Devin, I just got home. So Devin says, "When you were gone Daddy's phone was going beep beep beep and he said- What is she bored?"

BUSTED! Devin is ALWAYS "ratting" Erick out (as Erick would say)!!!

~ Last night Erick and I were talking about someone -not-so-kindly (no one you know!) and Erick said, "Yeah she's a B-I-T-C-H, huh?" Right behind him Devin says, "Who's a B-I-T-C-H?"

Guess we can't even spell out the swears anymore!?!?!?! LOL

Oh out of the mouths of kids!

Shh, don't tell!!!

Recently, Devin and I started listening to Christmas music in the car. I know its a little early, but I might be just as excited as he is for the upcoming holidays. Its something about experiencing the holidays through the eyes of a child that is exhilarating.

Anyway, after "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" we proceeded to have a conversation around this topic. I reminded him that he needed to be a good boy all the time or Santa wouldn't bring him any presents- I know...so mean! (He has been having a couple of particularly challenging days and I am 98% sure its another ear infection- we'll know later today.)

He told me, "Don't tell Santa, okay Momma?"

This darn kid is too smart for his own good!

Oh and Santa, if you are reading this, Devin REALLY wants a "toy" Buzz Lightyear and Woody for Christmas. Not the real ones, the toys. (LOL)

Taking Measurements

During "I" week at school Devin and his class made Inchworm Rulers. I had read on the activity board that they used their rulers to "measure" things around the classroom, so I was not at all surprised when Devin came home and began to measure things around the house with his new ruler.

The surprise came when I was standing at the kitchen sink washing dishes and Devin came up behind me and said, "I am going to measure your butt, Mommy. 8, 9, 10, 11. Wow! That's big!"

Umm...thanks? At least my big butt is good for measuring...

Say What?!?

Last week we went out to dinner at T-Bones. When Devin finished he said to Erick and I, "I'm all done. I'm gonna go wait outside."

Ummm...WHAT???? No, I don't think so! You are not 15, despite whatever you think!!! LOL

Say What?!?

Over the week-end we attended a baptism for Erick's cousin's sweet baby girl, Aliana. When we arrived to the party Erick's cousin Michael was standing out front, all dressed up. He is darker skinned (Dominican), clean cut, and thin build. He was wearing black/navy dress pants and a white dress shirt. Devin, being the astute boy that he is, noticed Michael right away once we pulled up and said, "Is that Obama?"

Erick and I happened to think that was possibly the most humorous thing we had heard all week-end! Everyone was calling Michael "Obama" for the rest of the day. I wish we had gotten that on video!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Friday Devin got the "regular" flu shot. Well, the way that he cried you might have thought someone was torturing him. He is usually pretty good with his shots and honestly, hasn't cried for the last several rounds of shots. Not this time! When he heard that my mother was also getting a flu shot he told her, "Grandma, you're gonna CRY when you get your flu shot!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Big Announcement!!!

One of Devin's little school friends is Gabby. Yesterday I heard all about how "beautiful" Gabby is and how "beautiful" her dress was that she was wearing yesterday. Yes, he also told her, and several other girls how beautiful they were. Oye! Gabby's mother works at Devin's school and this morning Devin asked her mother, Miss "D", "Is it alright if I marry Gabby?"

Hahaha! Miss D was so impressed with his manners that she said she would love for Gabby to marry a polite boy like him.

Am I in trouble or what?!?!?!

Devin-isms

New Sport:
After playing with a broken hockey stick at my parent's house Devin proudly declared, "That's my soccer bat!"

New Drink:
My mother bought Devin some Dannon drinkable yogurt. Devin LOVES it and affectionately calls it, "yogurt juice."

"I want more yogurt juice!!!"
