Apple Fest

Our friends, The Beaulieu's, invited us to the Apple Fest (a Salvation Army fundraiser) at the Sullivan Farm in Nashua. We had a great time while helping a worthy cause. Devin FINALLY got to ride a horse! He has been asking for a while. He had a smile PLASTERED on his face the entire time!!
There were a bunch of emergency vehicles available for the kids to check out. Everyone who knows Devin knows how much he has always loved firetrucks. Naturally he had to sit in driver's seat and check it out.
The kids also bounced in a bounce house/slide, played a ton of games, ate hot dogs, won prizes, and all out had a blast!

These two boys have known each other since Devin was in the womb. Pierce held him when Devin was 2 days old (Pierce is 1.5 years older). They've really grown to be good buddies. In fact, tonight they are having their first sleepover. Its also Devin's first non-Grandma sleep-out. More to come on that!

Apple Picking

Nothing says fall like a 60* Sunday morning spent apple picking followed by an afternoon of warm apple crisp.

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving is not exactly the most entertaining thing for a 3.5 year old. There really isn't a whole lot for the child to do to help in the process. Sure, he can help plan the jack-o-lantern face, take out the pulp and seeds, and, well, watch the Carver. That's about it.

Don't get me wrong, when we did our first family pumpkin carving tonight, we all enjoyed the process, it just wasn't very entertaining!! Devin ate his dinner while Erick was doing the hardest part of the cutting, which was probably best (less he bug Daddy) and he just watched while he ate his American Chop Suey and garlic toast. I was multi-tasking: cooking dinner and cleaning the seeds/cooking the pumpkin seeds.

Here is the pumpkin carving process in pictures:I must say that Devin was very excited with the final result and can not wait until Halloween night, when we promised him we would put a candle in the jack-o-lantern. Honestly, I am kind of excited for that too!!

Random Ramblings

Phew, it's been a while since I've blogged. I've been busy! Let's see...we've had a birthday, the first snow flakes, pumpkin picking, and I've been at a training for work. Told you I've been busy!

I will start with the really boring stuff- work. For 3 days last week I had to commute into Cambridge, Ma with some colleagues to attend a training for a new reading intervention program we are going to be using. The training was great, but the days were extremely loooooooong. I am not used to being out of the house for 11-12 hours, traveling 1.5-2 hours each way, using the subway etc. I had to arrange alternate care for Devin (Thanks Dad, Mom, and Carolyn!) and be really prepared ahead of time. It was a lot of work!

Friday and Sunday also brought the first snowflakes of the season. It is so early for snow! Sunday it actually snowed most of the afternoon. It did not accumulate much- mostly on cars, but it was quite a sight to see in mid-October!

Friday was Erick's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Hunny! We celebrated by going out to dinner at Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse. On Saturday Devin and I made Erick a birthday cake (I was way too busy with the training to do it on Friday). It was a nice, but uneventful birthday.

Saturday Devin and I went to Wilson Farm. It was a crisp sunny fall morning. We went for a tractor ride to the pumpkin patch and visited the animals. We also got caramel apples, vegetables, and hot chocolate. It was a fun morning.

Super Fun Busy Week-end

Friday night Devin stayed with Grandma and Papa so that Erick and I could go on a date. We kept it low key, running errands and going to Chunky's to see Love Happens. It was a sweet girly movie, and lucky for me my hubby is so good about watching those! Devin, of course had fun spending the night at Grandma's!

Saturday morning I had a hair appointment and afterward I met up with Devin and my Mom. We went to see my Dad and his band play at the Auburn Duck Race. It was a lot of fun to watch them play, especially since Devin has never seen the whole band in action, just my Dad playing his bass at home. Devin was really grooving to the music!

There was a big (plastic) duck race, clowns making balloons for the kids, face painting, food, and more!
On Sunday Erick, Devin, and I went apple picking. The apples are great and its nice and early in the season so they aren't picked over yet. We found lots and quick!

After that we went to visit Abuela, Grandpa, Uncle Brian and Aunt Courtney. We brought them some of our freshly picked apples. We had a lot of fun visiting and the 3 of us had a new experience~ the Wii! We tried a few of Brian's games. Devin really liked the Mario Cart and the baseball game. We laughed a lot!

You know I made Apple Crisp on Sunday evening.....YUM!

Picking Pumpkins

We had promised Devin that we would go pick out some pumpkins, so today we went to the local farm. We picked out 2 medium sized pumpkins for our steps and several gourds. We got a gourd for Grandma, a couple for the house, and one for my table at work. It was fun!


Me and Devin~ not sure why he looks scared here. I promise he has no reason to be. LOL
