A Craft for Daddy

One of my good friends is a Kindergarten teacher in the school where I am a Literacy Teacher. When I was picking up my students from her room I noticed that her students were working on a craft where they were making an "LLV" or mail truck as you commoners would call it. (LOL). I thought it was so cute. I commented on it how my husband would just adore those and she said "Oh yes! I wanted to give you one to bring home and do with Devin! I knew they would both like it."

Devin has himself and Erick in the driver's seat- with Devin driving of course! (you can click on the picture to get a closer look) Isn't it adorable?

And for those of you who are wondering what they were studying to prompt them to make these, I believe the unit is "Community."

Kick Pad Karate

Devin and Erick took a Kick Pad Karate Class together on Saturday afternoon. It was a great opportunity for them to learn some techniques, practice together, and have fun. I had a great time watching and taking pictures.
In these two pictures Erick was standing on the pads while Devin tried to knock him off (practicing balance).
The video shows Erick and Devin both practicing their balance in a fun way.

Conversation between Daddy and Devin

Devin has had this thing with biting his lower lip for a while now. I am not sure if its a nervous thing or just a habit and I don't know what to do about it or how to make him stop. I tell him not to do it and I have him put chapstick on it, but it still looks horrible with little sores/bite marks on it.

Well, I over heard this conversation last night:

Erick: Devin, you have to stop biting your lip.

Devin: No Daddy.

Erick: Its looks ugly. You want your lips to look pretty, so the girls will check them out.

Devin: Oookaaay, Daddy.

Maybe that will help? Maybe I was just approaching it the wrong way this whole time?

4th of July Week-end

Our week-end began with some at-home time. We got some house work done and just hung out. Devin took this time to play in his sand-box.

Then we went over to Erick's parents' house. The boys went swimming in Abuela and Grandpa's big pool. It was waaaay too cold for me! (I am a wimp!) Devin is doing really well with swimming. If he has his life jacket on, he can swim all on his on! Yay for Devin and swim lessons!

After several hours there, we headed over to our friends' house to hang out. There were a lot of kids for Devin to play with- so he was very happy! When we pulled up he said, "Kids! Toys!" Here are some of the kids waiting to roast marshmallows for S'Mores!

Here they are with their sticks!
Devin had a lot of fun and stayed up late!
On the 5th of July we went to my parents house for a BBQ. It was a nice relaxing day. Here is Devin with my grandmother. I love this picture!
And this is how Devin ended the week-end.....

Memorial Day Week-end

This week-end has been near-perfect! The weather has been absolutely gorgeous! Its been in the upper 70's and sunny, with the exception of one cloudy afternoon.

Friday afternoon Devin and I headed to my parents' house (our usual lately) to hang out in the backyard and have dinner.

Saturday Devin and I went to swim class and then hung out at home while Erick was working. Saturday night we had "Family Movie Night" and watched Bolt. We ate Nachos and chocolate creme pie. It was a lot of fun just hanging out and enjoying each other.

Sunday morning I let Erick sleep in and I got up with Devin. I made chocolate chip muffins, bacon, and mushroom and cheese egg white omelets. Yum! Then the 3 of us went for a hike in Mine's Falls. It was nice and cool in the park because it is in a wooded area. It was the first time we took Devin on this type of activity. He liked stopping to pick up sticks and pretend they were fishing poles or walking sticks. We went to a playground afterward to reward him for being a good sport. Sunday evening we had a little BBQ and then Devin and I went to Lexi's to play.

On Monday I got to sleep in! Around noon we went to my parents' house for a BBQ. It was a perfect weather day and Devin had a ton of fun playing in his little pool. We were relaxing around it and watching him play. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the food was delicious. Here are some of my favorite pics. (Somehow the ladies managed to stay out of the photos....)

Tea Party and Check Up

Saturday morning Devin and I were invited to our friends Kim and Emma's house. Devin and Emma are always so funny when they get together. They seemed to have formed this little love and hate relationship in the past year or so that we have been getting together. Of course this week-end was no different. The big to-do this time was a Tea Party.

Devin and I also took a trip to Wal-Mart over the week-end to pick up a Doctor Check-Up kit. Devin was able to get this kit as a reward for his "stellar" behavior report we received from school (for the whole week!). Obviously we were more than thrilled with this news! This means that the operation was a success!!! Devin has not had any ear infections since AND his behavior has improved dramatically and quickly! He has also increased his affection for learning. Yay!

Here are some pictures of Devin using the kit on Daddy.Dr. Devin really gets into his role.... LOL!

Please Forgive Me

I know that my blogging has been less that desirable lately. I have been trying to spare you the sicky details, as there have been many. Currently, though, Devin appears to be healthy and "normal" which is such a welcomed sight! I am hesitant to say this though because it seems once I notice this he becomes sick again. To recap, in the past 2 months Devin has had 3 ear infections, 1 stomach virus, and a chest virus, plus his usual asthma. No, its not been fun!

Devin did manage to make it to his Valentine's Day party at school on Friday the 13th. On the same day, Erick was invited in to school to do a special presentation to the class on the mail/post office. They have been talking about this all month and thought it would be fun to have a "real" mailman come in. Erick was flattered and went in armed with stickers and stamps for the kids to play with. He also brought along Devin's valentine treats for his friends as a "special delivery" which Devin and Daddy handed out to the kids. I only wish I could have been there to witness the cuteness and of course take pictures. Here are my guys before they headed off to school. Of course Devin *had* to wear his mail shirt (from Halloween) just like Daddy!!

Devin and Daddy head out

We got 11.5 inches of snow yesterday (note storm #2 of the week-end!), so when Daddy headed out to clean off the cars during the storm (because the plow was here) Devin wanted in on the action. Here are a few pics of my guys!

Picture Time

Here is Daddy reading to Devin during a recent Nebulizer treatment. This is the machine that is now helping Devin to breath properly. Its amazing what a kid will do for a sticker! :)The next few pics were taken outside yesterday when Daddy and Devin were playing around.
Come and get me Daddy!!!!

Cute Conversations

This conversation occurred between Devin and I yesterday morning.

Devin: I like your new shirt Mom.
Me: (after giggling a little since he has never said this before) I like your new jeans Devin.
Devin: I like your new jeans too, Mom. (I was wearing brown dress pants)
Me: Thanks Devin!
Devin: I'm a cry Mom.
Me: Why are you gonna cry Devin?
Devin: I want Daddy, Mom.
We proceed to call Daddy who is on his way to work.
Devin: Hi Daddy!
Daddy: Hi Devin!
Devin: You go to work Daddy?
Daddy: Yes, Devin. I have to go to work.
Devin: You a mailman Dad?
Daddy: Yes Devin, I'm a mailman.
Devin: Okay Dad. I luuh you.
Daddy: I love you too Devin. Be good for Mommy.

It still amazes me that Devin is capable of holding a conversation complete with his own thoughts. I am also impressed lately with how he lets me know of his emotions.

Swimming

On Thursday Devin and Erick went swimming in our complex's pool. Devin has really taken to swimming this year. He uses a life jacket, but can pretty much swim on his own other than that. He also LOVES to jump in the pool!
