Double Milestones

I was already feeling a bit emotional on the way to Devin's Pre-K graduation....realizing that he was about to start his "elementary school career" when he announced that he has a wiggly tooth. His FIRST wiggly tooth.

"No! Not today!" was my first thought. I just didn't think I could handle anymore milestones occurring on this day. *Sigh*

But alas, I have no choice.Today Devin graduated from pre-k and got his first loose tooth. My baby is getting so big, so fast. I have such a desire for the baby-ness to still be in the house but I know that I can not hold Devin back. He is ready for Kindergarten, smiles with "windows," sports teams, and play dates without Mom. I'm happy and yet so sad.

Once Upon A Time...

I was really concerned about Devin's fine motor skills. (Actually not that long ago.) He was not at all interested in coloring. He would scribble on the page and be done in 5 seconds flat. He would choose just about anything over coloring. Just recently, in the past few weeks, Devin has taken a liking to coloring and willingly chooses/asks to color. His skills have really developed in this time. I love his rainbow coloring technique.

Coolest Kid on the Playground

His teacher sent me this picture this morning. He is wearing her sunglasses...silly boy. Man, I love this kid!
(I am going to miss the random texts from his pre-school teachers after this year!)

School Days

Devin had his first day of Pre-Kindergarten (aka last year of pre-school) today. He was a bit nervous this morning. "'I'm going to miss you Mommy." he told me. So we talked about each of our "jobs." Devin's job is to go to school and learn and my job is to go to school and teach my students about reading. He understands this pretty well.

He was also nervous about being in a different class. Its filled with mostly the same children (a few newbies) but different teachers (one teacher in the am and one for after nap) and one thing we know about Devin is how much he LOVES Miss Emily (3 year old Pre-school teacher). He was a bit confused this morning but was getting the hang of things.

He will be just fine- my little social butterfly!

Here is Devin getting ready to leave the house this morning.

Pre-School Celebration

Devin's class (minus 2 kids) singing "I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee...."

A rose for all the Mommies!

4 Generations!! My grandmother, My Mother, Me, and Devin!

Devin and his Godmother, Erin (aka Aiyah)

Devin and the beloved Miss Emily! We will definitely miss being in Miss Emily's class. We have had a great year with her and think she's awesome!

And off to the 4/5 year old class he goes!

Drawing

Devin has recently started to "blossom" ehh ok blossom might be taking it a bit far, but he is finally taking interest in his fine motor skills, which were previously starting to make me nervous. The teacher side of me wants my son to be academically ready for absolutely every side of learning before necessary to ensure that he is going to have a positive learning experience all throughout his schooling. The logical side of me knows that Devin will be fine. He loves pre-school, has a great knowledge and understanding for letters and sounds, asks questions constantly and wants to learn.

Anyhow, those fine motor skills such as drawing, writing, coloring, and cutting were before the last couple of weeks just of NO interest to Devin! In the past 2 or 3 weeks he has started to ask to cut, color, paint, and draw. Here is an example of the adorable people Devin is now making. (I have a soft spot for the rudimentary drawings of small children!)
