Random Ramblings

~ Summer School is now in full swing and its going great! I have a nice class (13 kids) of third, going on fourth graders who don't mind doing some work. We are doing reading, writing, and math. I've also mixed in some fun activities to keep it light and remind everyone that it IS in fact, summer. The point of elementary summer school in my district is to help keep our (mostly inner-city kiddos) on the learning curve so they don't fall way behind, where a good portion of them already are. They do not land in my classroom because they've failed the previous year or are delinquent brats. I've got a wide range of readers in my room so meeting all of their needs in this short time will prove interesting, but thats what I love about teaching!

~Devin LOVES LOVES LOVES the new babysitter (such a relief!) but he wants to know, "where's the baby?" Haha, silly kid! There is no baby, a babysitter is someone who watches kids! I can see where he got that question. :)

~We never made it to see fireworks over the holiday week-end, which was one of my goals. I really thought Devin would enjoy it this year. It just didn't happen. By the end of the week-end, the ones we were going to see we were all waaaaay too tired! Maybe next year!

~ I have a mild summer cold. Fun! Gee, could it be from all of this "lovely" weather we have had so far this "summer" ? I mean really REALLY 66* for a high in JULY?!?!?!?! This is unreal!

~ Devin is going through a phase where bedtime is kind of a nightmare for all of us. This is rough because bedtime has always been so EASY! He wants 24243565 kisses and hugs from Mommy and then cries for me to come back for more. I am not sure what to do about this. We have tried different things. Sometimes telling him we will come back and check on him works, othertimes not. Sometimes he does this for a 1/2 hour. You have to understand that Devin has always gone to sleep in 3 minutes with NO problems. I am sure this is just a phase. RIGHT????

Ugh, we're going through a rough bedtime bout w/Cooper too. He's up two and three times before he's asleep. Always has to go potty, then needs to rock w/mommy or whatever his request is at the moment.... they really learn how to work it early don't they? Hopefully it's just a phase for Devin and he goes back to his normal good bedtime routine!

I think the bedtime thing must be normal 3 year old behavior. Annoying three year old behavior, but normal. I've taken to responding with "thank you" when Michael says "I love you" because it could go on all night.

As far as school, I think it's great that you enjoy the challenge of meeting your students' different needs. I hope Michael has teachers that care so much.

Yes, hopefully a three-ish phase. We are going through the same thing. She has no prob at all with afternoon naps, but bedtimes can drag on lately. I think I will have to say thank you to i love you like Joanna does LOL!
