Mi Casa

Me: Mi casa es su casa. That means my house is your house.

Devin: Yeah and Grandma's house is my house and your house is your house. Right Mommy?

Bahaha! Okay Devin! Whatever you say!

Growing Like a Weed!

At Devin's 3 year Well- Child appointment he was 40 inches tall. I measured him this morning and he was 41.5 inches tall!

That's an increase of 1.5 inches in the past 7 weeks!!! WOW! It must be all the sun and rain (watering)!

He is still about the same weight (40-ish pounds), give or take, depending on what he has eaten that day! And thankfully his shoe size (11.5) has not changed yet. Phew!

Grandma and Papa Day

On Saturday Devin and I got in some good Grandma and Papa time!

It was my mother's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!) so Devin and I picked out some cards and balloons and headed over for the day. It was a fun, relaxing day. Devin played outside with my brother for a while enjoying the beautiful day. We ordered pizza (yes a pizza party for Grandma! hehe!) and we just hung out. I think my Mom had a nice day.

The cutest thing I saw this week-end, though, had to be my father reading to Devin. It was adorable! They play together a lot~ ball, walks, trucks, etc. but reading really holds a soft spot in my heart!

Devin's New Hobby?

Some of Devin's recent photography:
As you can see, we've got some work to do in this area. At least he started getting closer to his subject in the next one.
Whoop! Almost got me Devin!

Hmmm, potential Christmas gift idea....one of those "Tough Kid" cameras....I'll have to keep my eye out for a sale!

And I Thought I was Sick...

Remember last week I had the summer cold which put me out of commission for a few days? I felt crummy with a fever, headache, dizziness, and cold symptoms. Well that's NOTHING compared to what poor Devin has been dealing with!

Devin spent the night with my parents Friday, and Saturday morning my Mom called to say that Devin had gotten sick and had a fever. She wanted to know about giving him some medication. I answered her questions and we started getting ready to head over to get our sick boy. Soon after she called back to say he had gotten sick again. :(

We went and got him and brought him home. Over the course of yesterday his temperature went up to 104* (a few different times!) and he also got sick a third time. It was kind of scary for a little while. We couldn't get his temp down. He couldn't keep anything down, cool baths and cloths weren't working, and we just had him hanging out in his shorts with a cool pack and the fan going (plus its air conditioned in here). His temp stayed up around 103* for most of the day and night. Finally around 3:30am I was able to get him to keep some Tylenol down and when he woke up at 8am his temp was down to 101*.

Devin is doing MUCH better today. His temp seems to be staying down, even below 100* now (without medication!) and he has had some toast and asked for more food. I told him we could try some plain noodles after nap (he asked for spaghetti).

Its awful seeing my baby so sick!

"Mommy, It's Your Birthday!"

Devin is really excited today! He keeps saying, "Mommy, its your birthday!" Last night he asked me, "Is it tomorrow yet?" because he wanted me to open my presents and cards and he knew I couldn't open them until tomorrow. It was so cute. First thing this morning he said, "Its tomorrow now Mommy! You can open your presents!"

I did open them and I received two new charms for my Chamilla bracelet, one from Devin and one from Erick. Devin even picked out the charm himself. Yay! My bracelet is not so naked anymore! Later today we will go to dinner with my parents and tonight Erick and I will go out with some friends to celebrate turning <<<30>>> woah!

Perfect Beach Day

Yesterday afternoon we went to Hampton Beach. It was the perfect weather, in our opinion. It was mid-seventies and mostly sunny. (We are not heat lovers, so you won't catch us at the beach on a 90* day!) We sat on the beach for an hour and half bringing Devin back and forth to the "yo-shun" sticking our feet in the freezing cold water (59*). Devin was much braver than us and kept collapsing himself so that his whole lower half was getting wet. Brrrrr!! It was a bit windy, so the waves were really coming in!

Devin also buried Daddy's feet and tried to make a sand castle. We had to carry some water in the bucket back to our spot because we weren't close enough to the water to make our sand wet.

Later, we got Devin changed and then walked around. We got Sabo's Subs (yum yum!) and ice cream before heading home.

ETA: Devin's main missions in going to the beach were to "make a sand castle and laugh in the water." I am pretty convinced that he got these ideas from Max and Ruby.

4th of July Week-end

Our week-end began with some at-home time. We got some house work done and just hung out. Devin took this time to play in his sand-box.

Then we went over to Erick's parents' house. The boys went swimming in Abuela and Grandpa's big pool. It was waaaay too cold for me! (I am a wimp!) Devin is doing really well with swimming. If he has his life jacket on, he can swim all on his on! Yay for Devin and swim lessons!

After several hours there, we headed over to our friends' house to hang out. There were a lot of kids for Devin to play with- so he was very happy! When we pulled up he said, "Kids! Toys!" Here are some of the kids waiting to roast marshmallows for S'Mores!

Here they are with their sticks!
Devin had a lot of fun and stayed up late!
On the 5th of July we went to my parents house for a BBQ. It was a nice relaxing day. Here is Devin with my grandmother. I love this picture!
And this is how Devin ended the week-end.....

Random Ramblings

~ Summer School is now in full swing and its going great! I have a nice class (13 kids) of third, going on fourth graders who don't mind doing some work. We are doing reading, writing, and math. I've also mixed in some fun activities to keep it light and remind everyone that it IS in fact, summer. The point of elementary summer school in my district is to help keep our (mostly inner-city kiddos) on the learning curve so they don't fall way behind, where a good portion of them already are. They do not land in my classroom because they've failed the previous year or are delinquent brats. I've got a wide range of readers in my room so meeting all of their needs in this short time will prove interesting, but thats what I love about teaching!

~Devin LOVES LOVES LOVES the new babysitter (such a relief!) but he wants to know, "where's the baby?" Haha, silly kid! There is no baby, a babysitter is someone who watches kids! I can see where he got that question. :)

~We never made it to see fireworks over the holiday week-end, which was one of my goals. I really thought Devin would enjoy it this year. It just didn't happen. By the end of the week-end, the ones we were going to see we were all waaaaay too tired! Maybe next year!

~ I have a mild summer cold. Fun! Gee, could it be from all of this "lovely" weather we have had so far this "summer" ? I mean really REALLY 66* for a high in JULY?!?!?!?! This is unreal!

~ Devin is going through a phase where bedtime is kind of a nightmare for all of us. This is rough because bedtime has always been so EASY! He wants 24243565 kisses and hugs from Mommy and then cries for me to come back for more. I am not sure what to do about this. We have tried different things. Sometimes telling him we will come back and check on him works, othertimes not. Sometimes he does this for a 1/2 hour. You have to understand that Devin has always gone to sleep in 3 minutes with NO problems. I am sure this is just a phase. RIGHT????

The Birth of a Dinosaur

My parents gave Devin this Dinosaur Egg last week. He was very excited about it! As soon as we got home we opened it up and put it in water. Here is the birth of a dinosaur in pictures!

Devin did very well waiting for the dinosaur to "be born." He was patient. I was thankful, though, that it only took about 2 days for the egg to crack and the dinosaur to fully grow. It was just long enough to teach Devin a good lesson in patience, but not too long that he lost interest or ripped into it and ruined the whole thing.

Thanks for the learning experience and the baby dino Grandma and Papa!!!
